Overview
The Australian Neurodiversity Toolkit meets the growing demand from our members for resources and information about neurodiversity in the workplace. It is an in-depth guide to welcoming and supporting neurodivergent employees and customers. Adapted from Business Disability Forum (UK) for Australian use, the Toolkit is now available for all members of Australian Disability Network.
A note on our approach
Viewing neurodivergence and neurodiversity through the social model of disability, we look at the whole person and their environment when considering what enables all employees to perform at their best.
Everyone’s experience is individual, and the Australian Neurodiversity Toolkit is designed to equip organisations to work with their team members as they remove barriers to neuroinclusion in the workplace.
Introducing neurodiversity, and why it is good for business
Neurodiversity is the umbrella term used to describe the neurological ways that people process information – people are often identified as neurotypical or neurodivergent.
In Australia, the approximately five million people with disability, including neurodivergence, have a combined disposable annual income of around AU$54 million. So, employing neurodivergent people, and developing accessible products and services for everyone with disability is simply good business.
