Celebrating six years of Disability Confident Recruitment

dfp Recruitment. Thinking People.

We were thrilled to become one of the first organisations in Australia to achieve Disability Confident Recruiter status and we are very proud of our continuing DCR status.”— Kate Coath, CEO, DFP Recruitment

DFP Recruitment was one of the first organisations to achieve Disability Confident Recruiter (DCR) status in 2016. Six years on, the organisation reflects on the impacts the Disability Confident Recruiter Program has had on their organisation, their inclusion achievements and the lessons learnt along the way.

Jobs and Skills Summit

Jobs + Skills Summit Outcomes Released 2 September 2022

As Australia’s peak body for disability inclusion in the workplace we welcome the outcomes of the Jobs and Skills Summit and the Federal Government’s commitment to greater employment equity for people with disability.

The federal government announced it has reached a memorandum of understanding with the Business Council of Australia to develop a disability employment initiative pilot.

The $3 million initiative aims to increase workforce participation for people with disability.

The government also committed to embedding employment into National Disability Insurance Scheme plans to ensure participants receive the support they need to find work.

The government’s initiatives signal its awareness that more needs to be done to remove the barriers to workforce inclusion and accessibility for people with disability,” said Australian Disability Network’s CEO Corene Strauss.

“Feedback from our 391 member organisations tells us that businesses welcome information and assistance to make their workplaces more inclusive and we hope the government’s initiatives are another great step in creating a disability-confident Australia.

Corene attended the recent Disability Employment Roundtable which brought together disability employment specialists, industry, business and people with lived experience to discuss how to better support people with disability to find and maintain employment. These ideas and solutions fed into the Jobs and Skills Summit.

Internship program now open to recent University graduates

As a response to employer and student feedback, we have decided to expand the eligibility criteria of the Stepping Into Program to welcome those who are not only currently studying, but also those who have completed a university degree within the past 3 years,” Australian Disability Network’s Program Manager Isabel Heiner said.

We are proud to announce that we have extended the eligibility criteria for our Stepping Into internship Program to not only welcome university students with disability to apply, but now recent graduates with disability.

As more and more Australian employers are looking for pipelines of skilled and talented candidates with disability, this development will allow even more university degree-qualified individuals to connect with business.

Applications are now open. If you are a student of recent graduate with disability, check our the full list of current internship opportunities and submit your application by Sunday 2 October. If you know a student or recent graduate with disability, share this with them!
