Australian Taxation Office – DCR Case Study
I was delighted that the ATO has been awarded Disability Confident Recruiter accreditation from the Australian Disability Network. This is an important step in our commitment to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace for all employees ” Susan Moriarty ATOP SES
The ATO is now part of a select group of organisations awarded the Disability Confident Recruiter (DCR) status. We are proud to be the third federal government agency to achieve this recognition. The DCR program has helped us identify and remove barriers in our recruitment process, increasing our confidence in attracting and supporting skilled candidates with disability.
“This accomplishment represents a significant milestone for the ATO, involving transformative enhancements to our systems and procedures. As a result, we now offer a more inclusive recruitment experience for candidates with disability”. ATO Recruitment Manager
Over a 2-year period, we collaborated closely with key stakeholders across the ATO including our Human Resources, Digital Experience, Information Technology and Property teams, to review and enhance our policies, processes and practices. By working with various teams and the Australian Disability Network, we implemented changes to improve candidate access and ensure equitable participation in our recruitment process. These efforts have optimised the candidate experience and strengthened our organisation capability and disability confidence.
Some of the changes implemented include a refresh of our job applications, candidate information kits, webpages, recruitment and onboarding procedures and streamlined reasonable adjustment requests. Additionally, we made recruitment materials available in alternate formats and candidates now have a direct point of contact for each advertised role.
We will continue to build on the DCR program as we are committed to removing barriers to employment, building disability confidence across the organisation, and improving access and inclusion for everyone. This is a priority reflected in our diversity and inclusion strategy. – Australian Taxation Office (2024)
